FairVentures is the innovation initiative of Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd., with the mandate to research, develop, partner and invest in innovative solutions to support the Fairfax family of companies. Our innovation Lab is located at the Communitech Hub in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario.
The FairVentures Lab team works with a variety of Fairfax companies across the globe, mainly in the property and casualty insurance, reinsurance, restaurant, and retail industries to aid and inspire innovation. We are a team of design, technical, data, and business professionals engaged in digital innovation initiatives. We’re diverse, passionate about our work, and love to have fun!
As the Lab’s Office Manager, you will enable and support innovation at Fairfax by keeping the Lab team and facilities optimized and running smoothly. We are looking for someone who enjoys being part of a small team, comfortable with a fast-paced and ever-changing environment and not afraid to take on new challenges. In this role, you will manage office operations, events, and general reporting. We expect you will have strong organizational, communication, and office management skills necessary to support a cutting-edge research and development organization. Your strong work ethics and dedication allow you to get things done in a timely manner while paying attention to quality and details.
Roles & Responsibilities
Oversee and coordinate all office administrative activities
Maintain office supplies and help create an amazing work environment
Assist hiring managers with job postings, interviews, and coordinate employee onboarding/offboarding
Provide accounting support such as invoicing, reporting, contracts, and payments
Setup and manage team meetings, coordinate Lab visitors and external events
Organize team travel by booking accommodations and reservations as required
General project support such as research, creating reports, presentations, etc.
- 2 - 5 years’ experience working in a professional office environment
Ability to work independently and as a member of project teams
Ability to organize information and create cohesive, professional reports and presentations with minimal guidance
Extremely detailed oriented, highly organized, able to manage time and multi-task to accomplish a wide variety of tasks with conflicting priorities
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Proficiency in using office software such as Microsoft Office, GSuite, project management, video conferencing, etc.
Familiarity with financial and accounting activities such as invoicing, accounts payable and receivable
