Component Engineering Specialist

We are currently designing the next generation cleaning robots that will take over the cleaning industry! Our robot, Neo, is successfully deployed to a long list of some of the best managed facilities on 5 continents. Our customers are using Neo in airports, shopping malls, universities, hospitals, commercial and industrial facilities.

The Component Engineering Specialist works closely with the Mechatronic Engineering Group, the Procurement team, and production to ensure that we source and procure current and correct components for our robot designs. In addition, the component engineer will be involved in driving cost reduction solutions for mechanical and electronic components, as well as custom parts such as, but not limited to PCBs, mechanical assemblies, cables and cable harnesses.

The ideal candidate is highly technical, inquisitive, self-motivated, eager to both learn and transfer knowledge to other teams. The core focus of this role is to find alternate, cost effective part solutions as they arise. 

The position reports directly to the Director of Mechatronics engineering. 

Main Tasks:

Responsible for providing technical support, technical capability of scope to the Mechatronic Design Procurement organization to ensure continuity of supply, supplier development, supplier readiness and improvement activities in order to improve the cost, delivery, response, service & quality requirements for our design & customers.
Function as a liaison regarding technical component requirements.
Review the specifications of Bills of Material (BOM) and manufacturer’s part numbers and advise suitability for application.
Identify alternate components/suppliers for reduction of materials costs and replacement of obsolete components.
Act as liaison between the procurement and engineering groups to resolve component incompatibilities and changing specifications.
Actively engage in quoting activity, supplier selection and provide value added services to support both existing and new customer introductions and sustaining support.
Support infrastructure and projects to address and comply with changing industry compliancy requirements and reporting.
Identify process improvements, outsource or other part related opportunities for overall cost reduction.
Manage Part Change Notifications, End of Life production, and part obsolescence.
Ability to multi task and manage high mix/complexity of components.

   

Requirements:

Technology Degree or Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronic Engineering.

3+ years hardware or mechanical engineering design experience

3+ years of component engineering experience

3+ years of relevant experience in an Engineering, manufacturing environment

Solid knowledge and understanding of electronic, mechanical, and electro-mechanical components and their functionality.

Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.

Efficient organizational and analytical skills.

High aptitude for very detailed work.

Strong interpersonal skills.

Ability to work well in a team environment.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Able to meet deadlines in a fast paced, environment for production and New Product Development.
