About Us:

Nicoya’s mission is to extend human life by enabling a deeper knowledge of the biological world. We are based in Kitchener, Ontario - Canada's Silicon Valley. Our main product OpenSPR, is a scientific instrument for the biotechnology research and development industry. It provides detailed information on molecular interactions using optical nanosensor technology known as localized surface plasmon resonance. It is the most affordable SPR instrument on the market and will disrupt an industry that has been primarily dominated by highly expensive and complex instrumentation.

About the Job:

We are looking for an SPR scientist who has a desire to be part of a growing early stage company. At Nicoya, we love to work hard and play hard. Our team is expanding and we need more talented people to join our mission! We are looking for an energetic, results-oriented SPR scientist that will help both of our product development team and sales team with the SPR data they need to be successful. Our ideal candidate has a background in biochemistry or a related field, and has experience performing SPR experiments or similar biophysical characterization techniques. Being able to perform critical SPR experiments in a timely fashion and communicate results and progress with all of the relevant stakeholders is key to success in this role!

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimize SPR experiments with a variety of samples ranging from proteins, peptides, small molecules, aptamers, RNA/DNA, lipids, etc

  • Generate/update new application notes for the OpenSPR and the OpenSPR XT

  • Test customer samples and produce data reports to share with the customer based on these results

  • Support the sales team with technical inquiries from leads

  • Communicate with customers and suppliers to understand needs and coordinate experiments

  • Coordinate with the sales team and sales managers on experimental priority and requirements

  • Provide frequent updates to the various stakeholders involved in a project/experiment

  • Write standard operating procedures for different experimental procedures

  • Perform SPR training to members of the Nicoya team

  • Aid in the production of demo videos for the OpenSPR and the OpenSPR-XT for marketing and training purposes

  • Perform Quality Assurance on instruments before shipping

  • Occasionally travel with a sales representative to perform demonstrations of the OpenSPR or the OpenSPR-XT

  • Design new experimental protocols for new experiments on the OpenSPR and OpenSPR-XT

  • Help test new products produced by Nicoya Lifesciences

  • Assist in the development of new products or the optimization of existing products such as new SPR chip chemistries, reagent kits, etc

  • Provide product feedback to the product development team on how the instrument and user experience can be improved

Our Ideal Candidate Has:

 

  • Hands-on experience running standard biochemical and biophysical analysis techniques

  • 3+ Years of experience performing scientific projects (especially employing SPR and other biophysical characterization techniques)

  • Attention to detail and an outstanding problem solver

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

  • Extremely organized and meticulous in your scientific process

  • Analytical and results driven with a proven track record of successfully executing research projects

  • Ability to set & meet realistic deadlines that lineup with business timelines

  • The ability to multi-task and handle diverse responsibilities

  • Work independently in a fast-paced environment as well as with a team

  • Able to operate with minimal direction and supervision
