Senior Desktop Systems Engineer

Reports to: Manager, IT System Operations

Desktop technologies represent a crucial part of IT’s ability to deliver value to our customers and business partners. They are the conduit that allows daily processing, transactions, and functionality, and as such need to be maintained at a constantly high performing and secure level. We are looking for that technical whiz that can help deliver this critical capability to join our team and help us deliver on this important commitment. What you'll do:

  • Lead the design, implementation and management support of the company’s desktop management, automation platforms and enterprise desktop platforms
  • Recommend, develop and set virtualization and desktop systems operations and management controls, processes, policies, and standards for the Company based on industry standards, best principles and commonly applied good practices
  • Ensure desktop patching is designed, implemented and managed to meet necessary security & vulnerability requirements
  • Deliver continuous improvement, automation and innovation in the management and delivery of desktop systems operations and practices
  • Establish, monitor and meet key performance indicators in support of IT infrastructure and Company operational metrics
  • Support response to desktop platform incidents (including highly critical, performance impacting) and problems
  • Actively participate in IT infrastructure, architecture and services community
  • Ability to communicate to all levels within in the company up to and including Sr. Management
  • Provides technical leadership and mentoring for more junior desktop staff


What you'll need:

  • Eight (8) years in IT, with three (3) or more years in an IT desktop or end-user services capacity
  • Expert knowledge and experience with Windows desktop operating systems (Windows 7, 10) and Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager
  • Advanced Microsoft or similar certifications; ITIL v3 Foundations certification a strong asset
  • Expert knowledge and experience designing and managing an enterprise (>750 device) Windows desktop environment, inclusive of desktop automation, hardware selection & provisioning, maintenance, patching, security, heavy-duty scripting, and systems management toolsets
  • Ability to recognize that a desktop computing environment is a mission-critical piece of Information Technology and treat it that way
  • Expert problem management and troubleshooting capability; an analytical and critical thinker
  • Experience working with a virtual desktop infrastructure (VMWare Horizons) is a strong asset
  • Proficient communications (written, verbal, presentation) and negotiation skills and experience with conveying complex, technical information to non-technical audiences
  • A passion for analyzing and figuring out challenging things, but also can kick-back, laugh, and have some fun along the way
  • Interest in working on large scale, technology transformation projects, but also fully willing and able to sweat the minutiae and maintain operational focus
