Junior Release Engineer

Job Description

We are looking for a team member who is motivated, enthusiastic and proactive. As a Junior Release Build Engineer, this is your first exposure to a DevOps environment. You will be joining a team which is responsible for the development, testing, deployment, and support of software releases.  You will be responsible for the setup and maintenance of build environments, as well as maintaining the deployment process for web-based products.  Furthermore, you will be setting up and maintaining test environments using cloud-based resources.  You will also communicate with many different teams to ensure that the release pipeline for each team evolves as necessary to match the evolution of the product.  You will be part of a fast-paced matrix team where you will have exposure to CI/DC concepts, cloud infrastructure automation and containerization. This role requires a willingness to learn and high attention to detail.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Maintain deliverable items including deployment scripts and packages for web-based products

  • Maintain the cloud-based test environment

  • Maintain all build-related items including:

    • Maintaining build definitions

    • Maintaining scripts to aid in the build process

  • Maintain deployment processes including:

    • Using Octopus Deploy to orchestrate the deployment processes for multiple web products

    • Configuring web servers, SQL Server environments, and Windows services

  • Maintain a release pipeline to ensure a reliable deployment process between each environment

  • Effectively communicate across multiple teams

Skills and qualifications required:

  • Degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent work experience

  • Experience using PowerShell or other scripting languages

  • Experience with Git is preferred or another source control system

  • Knowledge of Hyper-V and the management of virtual machines (including AWS/Azure)

  • Knowledge of web-based technologies (ex. ASP.NET, IIS, XML, JavaScript, etc.) is an asset
