At Citus Data we turn PostgreSQL, the world's most advanced open source database, into a distributed database by adding the open source Citus extension. This gives Citus users all the powerful abilities of PostgreSQL, combined with the ability to scale out across any number of servers. This is a new and fun way of building a distributed database. By building on top of Postgres servers, Citus can perform distributed SQL commands by executing single-node SQL commands across many servers in parallel and merging or reshuffling the results, all while utilising the Postgres planner, indexes and other features, which puts Citus years ahead of other distributed databases. At the same time, Postgres' extension APIs allow Citus to seamlessly integrate into the database and appear as a single Postgres server.

Citus is a pragmatic and powerful database that powers businesses with up to a PB of data and is becoming the go to solution for business outgrowing a single database server, especially in the cloud.

We're looking for senior engineers on the database development team which is responsible for development of the Citus extension and related tools, and providing custom solutions for customers. Programming is done primarily in C, but without all the usual messiness thanks to Postgres' elegant internal APIs. We also build tools to help customers in whichever language is appropriate. If you're interested in working on distributed SQL, high availability, distributed transactions, seamless scale out, and other parts of a distributed database, and you're excited about working in a distributed organisations with engineers from companies like Amazon and Heroku, then Citus might be the place for you.

 

Candidates should have:

  • Degree in Computer Science or familiarity with CS research. M.Sc or higher preffered.
  • 4+ years experience in software development
  • Developed large-scale distributed systems or database systems
  • A thorough understanding of data structures and algorithms
  • Familiarity with a systems programming language
  • Willingness to work with remote teams in different time zones
