Display Hardware Engineer

About You:

You’ve been responsible for the hardware design of part of a display or projection system. You make decisions based on theory and data, and you build models and tests to achieve this goal. You have a deep understanding of at least one of the following: optical sensors, hardware and firmware design, and imaging quality test methods. You know you’ll thrive in a young, cutting-edge technology company, and you want to help usher in the next era of personal computing.

What You’ll Do:

  • Propose design solutions for display or projection systems
  • Collect meaningful data on test platforms of your own design
  • Articulate design limitations and trade-offs, propose design choices
  • Design control loops that rely on component models to mitigate noisy or incomplete data

Main Objectives:

  • Within 3 weeks,
    • Familiarize yourself with the Focals product intent and product requirements
    • Understand the the Focals display architecture
    • Articulate the display hardware control loop design trade-offs and impact of the design decisions
  • Within 6 weeks,
    • Take ownership of a display hardware subsystem and decompose performance and interface requirements into a testable specification
    • Identify and propose test solutions to address knowledge gaps in system architecture and component models
  • Within 3 months,
    • Develop evaluation hardware to validate prototypes and design architectures
    • Create and optimize control systems to achieve eye-popping, predictable, display performance
    • Recommend architecture, design, and component changes to create a robust design
  • Within 6 months and beyond,
    • Validate your designs and incorporate them into the product architecture
    • Create test solutions that evolve the IDMS to transparent displays
    • Validate your designs against the subsystem and product specifications

What You’ll Need:

  • Display or projection system design experience, or experience designing a components specifically for a display or projection system
  • Test hardware and software development, test execution
  • Scripting (i.e. Python or other language) for data analysis

Bonus Points for:

  • Firmware design experience
  • Building analytical and empirical models of complex systems
  • Control loop design
  • Process control or statistical data analysis
  • Consumer product development cycle experience

Feel like you can’t tick all the boxes above? If you have some of the skills and experience that we’re looking for and are willing to use your talent to learn the rest, we encourage you to apply!
