We are transforming government. Our products will impact people's everyday lives. It's an exciting thing to be part of. And we need you.
The Canadian Digital Service is a collective of creative people committed to using our digital skills and knowledge to make it easier to access and use government services. Our growing multidisciplinary teams work with federal departments to make the services people depend on simple and easy-to-use. We are focused on delivering better public services using the best technology and design, all informed by user needs.
By working in the open, and connecting partners with tools, talent, and training grounded in practice, we’re building capacity across the government for better service delivery.
Currently, we're hiring in Ottawa, Toronto, Waterloo & Montreal.
We’re looking for Designers and Researchers to join our team:
You have an extensive portfolio in User Experience, Interaction Design, Service Design or Design Research.
You have a track record of removing complexity from services or products, and you champion simplicity.
You take an approach that is inclusive and accessible from the start.
You’re great at communicating with people who aren’t familiar with design, comfortable working alongside clients during the design process, and are excited to work with people on research and testing.
Are passionate about a user’s experience and want to create measurable improvements to service delivery.
Love working in multi-disciplinary teams and with external partners.
Create structure out of ambiguity, and forge a path in new environments.
Are excited about working in the open to benefit a larger community, and about sharing success and failures.
Are curious, and your humility helps you learn and grow.
Are in love with the problem, not the solution.
What we’re offering
An agile, dynamic team where you can work alongside experts from many digital disciplines.
An enabling environment, with access to the modern tools you need to do great work.
A laser-focus on users needs, with the ability to see the impact of your efforts.
Flexible work arrangements that ensure strong work-life balance.
The mandatory requirements:
- Preference will be given to Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
All candidates must be able to obtain a Government of Canada security clearance at either the Reliability or Secret level. We'll help you with this if you're offered a position.

We recognize that everyone brings different skills and experiences to the table, and that nobody “checks all the boxes.” Include a link to a CV, examples of your work, and/or whatever you think we should see to get to know you.
