The Opportunity

The Software Developer, Mobile (Android) plays a key role in our Android development team as we continue to build and improve one of Canada’s most popular apps, The Weather Network/MétéoMédia.  You will be hands-on with the development of our Android applications, working alongside other team members to deliver the premier Weather experience!

You are a passionate Android enthusiast who loves writing code with Kotlin to craft applications that don’t sacrifice quality and user experience.  You are comfortable joining forces with your scrum team in pair or mob programming scenarios and aren’t afraid to roll up your sleeves to craft epic experiences.  You also know when to take advantage of open source tools and when something should be written from scratch.

What we’ll expect from YOU…:

  • Create, improve, and maintain new and existing features in “The Weather Network” Android application

  • Write “Clean Code”, following Android architecture standards and design patterns

  • Ensure the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of the application

  • Follow a TDD approach to ensure strong unit-testing coverage for robustness, including edge cases, usability, and general reliability

  • Work as a dynamic and highly participative member of an Agile team that collaborates closely on mob and paired programming, being a vocal participant in the process.

  • Ensure that we are taking advantage of the latest SDKs, tools, and features that the Android platform has to offer.

  • Collaborate with other Developers, QA, Project Management, Product Owners and other partners to ensure high quality results.

This is what YOU have:

  • University degree in Computer Science, or College diploma in Computer Programming, Information Technologies or a related discipline

  • Minimum 2 - 3 years related job experience with apps published to the Google Play Store is a MUST HAVE

  • Proven Object Oriented Design and Analysis Skills. Practical experience with design patterns

  • Experience working with Test Driven Development

  • Strong experience with Android Studio and Material Design practices

  • Experience with continuous integration and build pipelines

  • Experience writing code with Kotlin

But what really makes you stand out is…

  • Experience with cross-platform languages and technologies such as React Native and/or Flutter

  • Experience with Cloud applications and services

  • Exposure to Dagger, and additional dependency injection tools

  • Creative & innovative thinking (outside-the-box) to provide high value-of-service to clients

  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and analyze a problem

  • Ability to quickly diagnose and analyze software problems and find solutions.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
