What we’ll expect from YOU…:

  • Prime subject matter expert for Android development and Android application design

  • Establish a technical vision with the Android team, and work with the team to turn it into reality, remaining hands-on with code

  • Experiment with new technologies as they are available, and demonstrate how they can work in The Weather Network products

  • Mentor the Android team to integrate your solutions and approaches into their daily work

  • Lead architectural discussions, reviews, designs, estimates, prototypes, oversight, etc.

  • Collaborate with and guide the Android team in their quest for continuous delivery

  • Explore and prototype cross-functional technologies to gain efficiencies across teams

  • Collaborate with others to ensure consistency and interoperability of applications and services enterprise-wide

  • Ensure quality of technical approach and designs

  • Strong knowledge of object-oriented application design & concepts

  • Promote improved defensive coding to guard against exceptions better as well as logging/reporting for improved monitoring and detection of anomalies

  • Architect systems with the big picture in mind to meet current needs but also futureproof as by laying the most cost-efficient platform for further rapid growth

This is what YOU have:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related discipline

  • At least 4 years Android development experience, including at least one year with Kotlin

  • 5 - 7 years software development experience

  • Experience working with Continuous Delivery pipelines, including implementation of microservices, containers, and Kubernetes deployments

  • Experience working in:

    • Kotlin for Android Development IS A MUST. We won’t be able to consider your application without this.

  • Strong experience working with a Software Development Life Cycle (including requirements gathering, planning/estimation, design, development, testing) in an Agile development environment

  • Working and proven knowledge of OOP techniques and design patterns

The Process (in case you were curious to know): 

  1. Phone Interview with the hiring manager and HRBP - 15 to 30 minutes

  2. 1st In-Person Interview at our office in Oakville. There will be a technical test at this stage.

  3. 2nd In-Person Interview at our office in Oakville. You will meet some additional team members and you will be asked to prepare a 7 minutes presentation.

  4. You will have a phone call or video call with our CTO.
