The Opportunity

NEXT Canada is seeking an engaging, creative, well organized and talented person to take on an exciting leadership role.

A part of NEXT’s management team, you will be responsible for the strategic direction, design and delivery of new initiatives to support Canadian business’ adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies, connect talent across NEXT’s programs with leading employers, academic institutions, and partners in the innovation ecosystem, and enhance NEXT’s impact on Canadian prosperity.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development and execution of NEXT’s new AI business adoption program for major corporations and SMEs, featuring a cutting edge model that mixes executive education with heavily applied online learning delivered with partners from world leading academic institutions

  • The conception, scoping and delivery of a new stream of programing focused on connecting AI talent across NEXT’s programs with leading employers, academic institutions, and partners in the innovation ecosystem

  • Leading other major new initiatives in support of NEXT mission to increase national prosperity through innovation and entrepreneurship

  • Building relationships and establishing strategic, program delivery and funding partnerships with key players across the startup, innovation, academic, and government sectors

  • Supporting NEXT’s expansion activities in Montreal and across Canada

  • Evaluate the impact of new initiatives, establishing benchmarks, goals and metrics for tracking, as well as processes for reporting to the board, to funders and other audiences

  • Preparing and managing budgets as approved by the Board of Directors, working with the NEXT’s finance team in financial management of program-related expenditures and funding agreements

  • Build and manage a team supporting their growth, performance and workflow, as well as the culture of passion, openness, creativity, fun and collaboration across the organization

  • Hire and oversee third-party contractors and service-providers, developing budgets, ensuring value for money in contracts, and providing feedback on execution of work

  • Work with the NEXT team to input and maintain up-to-date contact records in the organization’s CRM system

  • Play a leadership role a part of the NEXT management team, supporting top flight delivery and collaboration across other major organizational activities (e.g. NEXT’s three entrepreneurship programs, communications and marketing, development, operations, board support)

 

Preferred Candidate Specifications:

  • Demonstrated strength in scoping and defining never-been-done-before initiatives, and partnering closely with other parts of the team in their design and execution

  • Track record within the innovation ecosystem, and knowledge of areas of emerging technology such as artificial intelligence are an important asset

  • An understanding of the post-secondary landscape and the process of academic program development, including instructional design and online learning platforms, is an asset

  • Experience defining, leading and executing on complex, multi-location and multi-disciplinary projects

  • Managerial experience in building a team and working with contractors and consultants

  • Previous experience meeting, consulting and negotiating with stakeholders at senior levels in Canadian organizations (and abroad as an asset)

  • Experience working with senior organizational leaders, including the CEO, management team, and with the Board of Directors

 

Qualifications and Key Characteristics:

  • Five to seven years of relevant experience in program development and management, ideally in roles where strategy meets execution

  • Completion of a university or college degree, with advanced degree preferred

  • Strength in identifying key priorities, and aligning strategic and tactical plans

  • High levels of integrity required working for a mission-driven non-profit

  • Ability to work quickly and decisively, exercising significant discretion in understanding when to check-in with COSO and CEO

  • Excellent communicator - written, verbal and in presentations or meetings

  • Effective under pressure, skillfully managing competing priorities

  • A great(!) team player, eager to work in a dynamic and fun environment

 

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $100,000 - 120,000, to be negotiated based on qualifications and experience. NEXT also offers a competitive benefits package and group RRSP program.
