Hardware Developer

About the Role:

We’re looking for a talented Hardware Designer to join our R&D team in the design of mixed signal printed circuit board assemblies for use in medical devices and AR/VR systems. Reporting to the Manager, Electronics Engineering you will be responsible for design, development, integration, and release of PCBAs for NDI’s advanced measurement systems. You will be working on hardware designs that include a wide variety of technologies ranging from low power analog electronics to high-speed processors in an innovative and challenging environment.

What you’ll be Doing:

 Manage requirements, design reviews, and associated design files

  • Interface with contract manufacturers to ensure smooth delivery of prototypes
  • Schematic entry and printed circuit board design
  • Prototype development of PCBs, initial board bring-up, and testing
  • Integrate leading-edge electronic technologies into new product designs
  • Create electrical specifications, test procedures, and verification reports
  • Work as part of the design team to source suitable components from a variety of suppliers
  • Work collaboratively as part of our cross-functional teams including our Product Teams, Project Managers, Mechanical and Software teams.
  • Ensure project completion is timely, striving to meet or exceed milestones

What you’ll bring to the role:

 Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Technologist Diploma, or equivalent

  • 7+ years of recent hands-on experience in hardware design
  • System level design experience, including multilayer PCB layout, signal integrity, and power management
  • Experience designing PCBAs using Xilinx SOC based systems, incorporating high-speed memory and communications components
  • Practical, hands-on experience testing and debugging new products using logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and other equipment you would find in the lab
  • Experience building up prototypes, with some soldering of components during board testing
  • Strong ability to work independently
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and sense of urgency while managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong organization skills, documentation skills, and the ability to communicate well both in writing and orally

  • Designing PCBs with Altium Designer or Cadstar
  • Working with optical image sensors like CCDs or CMOS imagers
