Position Summary

Communitech’s  Strategic Initiatives team, based out of the Communitech Data Hub in Uptown Waterloo,  brings together key players — from startups and global brands, to government agencies, and academic institutions — to inspire persistent innovation and revolutionize the way we leverage data.

A Special Interest Zone (SIZ) is a dedicated space at the Communitech Data Hub where Canada’s largest and most successful companies collaborate with the Waterloo Region ecosystem to wrestle with their toughest problems.

Reporting to the Director, Strategic Initiatives  the SIZ Program Manager will support all Special Interest Zone clients, and take on the following:

Responsibilities

  • Proactively provide all Special Interest Zone clients with:
    • Matchmaking and ecosystem engagement with relevant groups, including:
      • Startups
      • Scale-ups
      • Academics and students
      • Government funders
      • Other potential collaborators
    • Access to events on emerging data topics led by cutting-edge practitioners from industry, academia and government
    • Access to data sets, tools and potential customers or subject matter experts within the Communitech ecosystem
    • Coordination with all other Communitech, ODX, and relevant corridor offerings including technical growth coaches and relevant Corporate Innovation programs
    • Meet with SIZ client leads weekly to help with community engagement
  • Identify specific projects that SIZ clients could undertake at Communitech
  • Track and provide program metrics against specific targets for reporting
  • Participate in a variety of SIZ client updates, including input and attendance at all SIZ client quarterly update meetings
  • Build relationships with other groups within Communitech in support of the various initiatives
  • Build knowledge around data innovation topics including AI, Analytics, Blockchain, etc. for the benefit of our customers  
  • Represent and enable the SI team at events where required.
  • Other duties as required from time to time.

Requirements

  • 5 - 7 years of relevant work experience is required
  • Previous experience working with enabling or growth organizations is an asset
  • You are a relationship builder with strong interpersonal skills and a thirst for knowledge
  • Solid organizational skills and ability to effectively manage multiple concurrent requests and prioritize those requests based on impact
  • Proactive and results oriented
  • Ability to maintain confidential information is required
  • Familiarity with topics relevant to data driven innovation (analytics, visualization, open data, etc.) an asset
  • G-Suite and Salesforce experience, as well as experience supporting a business-to-business sales function, is an asset
