What you’ll do
Engineering Managers at Sortable lead teams of talented Software Developers who are building our core revenue optimization technology. You will be responsible for fostering happy and productive, self-organizing teams operating in an Agile development environment. Great managers enable their teams to solve problems, remove impediments, rely on their teams’ expertise, and do everything in their power to make the team successful. You will be the facilitator and mediator of team discussions to get to the best course of action. Managers don’t make unilateral decisions; they understand the knowledge and capabilities of their team and unleash their talent to shatter goals.
A successful candidate will be passionate about:
Leading and supporting a team of software developers - setting priorities and accountabilities
Working with Technical Product Managers and Engineering leadership to drive projects forward and ensure the right people are solving the right problems at the right time
Holding regular one-to-one discussions with your team to support their growth and remove roadblocks to their success
Coaching and supporting the career development of your team
Participating in the hiring and onboarding of new team members who will add to your team’s success
Working with Engineering leadership on department-wide changes and improvements
Supporting and demonstrating a good work-life balance
Requirements/what it takes
This role isn’t for everyone, and that’s ok! We want you to be comfortable with your application, so we’re going to outline some requirements we’ll have to see in successful candidates.
Three years or more of managing direct reports: mentoring, resolving conflict, setting priorities, etc.
Five years or more of professional experience as a software developer
Strong understanding of the unique challenges of managing people and methods of approaching those challenges
Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills
Experience developing software using an agile methodology
Bonus points and nice to have qualities
These aren’t necessarily required, but if you’ve got this experience, let us know. It will help you stand out.
Ten years or more of relevant work experience
Experience as a Scrum Master or Agile certification
Experience building and supporting web applications (full stack)
Experience building and deploying software on Linux (or other Unix-like) systems
Experience developing QA or Test strategies
Knowledge of internet ad ops
You find time to code just because you love it!
