Application Support Specialist

The Upper Grand District School Board Information Technology Department is currently seeking an energetic individual to assume the full-time permanent position of Application Support Specialist. The person in this role interacts directly with internal customers to identify requirements and facilitate solutions through the development of process, implementation plans and support of software applications. A focus for this position will be on supporting system-based educational software used in schools and by other departments. As a strong team player, you are driven to provide strong customer satisfaction through your attention to detail and your ability to listen to customer needs, then creatively define and deliver the solution. A self-starter, you require little supervision.

The Application Support Specialist provides leadership and vision, fosters team development and directs the implementation of the strategy and architecture to manage, deliver and support various software applications for staff and student use within the Upper Grand District School Board.

LOCATION: Guelph Board Office (500 Victoria Rd. N, Guelph, ON)

SALARY RANGE: $25.07 to $31.34 per hour (35 hours per week)

RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary responsibilities of this role are:

 Responds to end-user support requests related to account information and software licensing in an efficient, timely and effective manner

 Procures, applies and manages licenses related to system software

 Builds and maintains relationships with vendors of system based software

 Participates in the development, on-going support and maintenance of standardized business processes to support UGDSB software applications and reporting requirements

 Identifies and documents current processes of designated target applications, including data inputs, edits, business rules and reporting outputs

 Documents new processes and assists with development of training plans for implementation of application modifications

 Organizes and delivers application training as required

 Works with schools, key departments for software setup and application implementation

 Responds to requests from the system for data extracts and prepares reports as required

 Participates in the development, implementation and ongoing compliance monitoring of PIM/EDI, to ensure all privacy concerns, requirements and responsibilities related to electronic data are addressed

 Assists with research of new software and processes and maps to current processes providing documented, conversion effort, development effort and implementation effort

 Assists other IT Technical and Systems Integration support staff as required

 Continuous attention to and knowledge of technology trends and changing UGDSB standards

 Other duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will possess the following education and experience:

 Post-secondary degree/diploma (Computer Science, Information Systems or Systems Analysis preferred) or equivalent work experience

 Knowledge and awareness of school-based educational software

 Knowledge and experience in business process mapping and documentation

 Demonstrated organization and facilitation skills

 Polished oral and written communication and presentation skills

 Knowledge and experience in information management and document management technique

 Knowledge and experience supporting and implementing new technology trends in an educational setting

 Knowledge and experience in developing and delivering end user documentation

 Demonstrated strength as a team player with exceptional experience and dedication to customer support

 Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects concurrently while juggling priorities and requests

 Demonstrated personal interaction and teamwork skills

 Demonstrated analytical skills

 Proficiency in Microsoft suite of office tools, including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint

 Knowledge and experience in Maplewood Software would be a definite asset This position will start as soon as possible.
