Your role will involve development of the SkyWatch API, which will power the much-anticipated, new platform for accessing the world’s satellite data. You will play a lead role in feature development from ideation, to design, to development, to deployment, and user testing.

You must be passionate about startups and enjoy the intricacies of making one successful. You equate our success with your own and vice versa.


  • Design and develop event driven microservices that power our application backend, REST API, and its underlying foundations

  • Solicit requirements, provide feedback, design and implement new features, and promote the ongoing adoption of existing microservices throughout the team

  • Contribute to the platform development roadmap, providing ideas, guidance, and feedback



  • You have experience building scalable, high availability backend systems

  • You have a strong portfolio that demonstrates your expertise in Python application development

  • You understand what it takes to develop a usable, scalable, high performance REST API

  • You are proficient with server development on Linux systems

  • You have experience with modern distributed systems

  • You have familiarity with databases and managing large datasets

  • You have knowledge of AWS / GCP

  • You have knowledge of containerization (Docker) and/or Orchestration (Kubernetes)

  • You know the backend stack like you know your credit card PIN (hopefully very well).


  • Knowledge in geospatial information systems and/or physics.


  • You continuously strive for improvement and efficiencies beyond your own scope of responsibility

  • You have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral

  • You're a proficient organizer with an uncanny ability to multitask and meet deadlines

  • You're a critical thinker with excellent decision-making skills
