Research Engineer

Company Overview:

Waterloo, ON based Machine Learning start-up developing cutting-edge embedded software for interpreting output of a variety of sensors on low-power, low-footprint semiconductor chips. Has been publicly recognized as one of the top start-ups in Canada and recently closed a multi-million dollar seed round. Have completed development of two industry-first products for ordinary, low-cost chips: an embedded NLU (Natural Language Understanding) system and a GR (Gestures Recognition) system. Has partnerships with major semiconductor firms and is gearing up to launch, market, and support products in key industrial verticals around the world.

 

Job Duties:

  • Perform data manipulation, data analysis, algorithm development, and other research in machine learning space.

  • Implement product prototypes and design experiments for their evaluation.

  • Transition product prototypes into production versions for commercial deployment.

  • Integrate existing algorithms into robust, production-quality software.

 

Core Requirements:

  • M.S. or PhD degree in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience.

  • Minimum 5 years work experience in Machine Learning and Embedded Software.

  • Background and experience in Machine Learning and Digital Signal Processing, Natural Language Processing, Image Processing, Computer Vision, and Probabilistic Graphical Models.

  • Experience with Deep Learning and associated Machine Learning frameworks.

  • Professional software development experience using C/C++ with strong embedded programming experience. Knowledge of a range of other languages and environments is a plus.

  • Experience developing commercial firmware in areas such as Neural Network Processing, Machine Learning, and Real-Time Software.

  • Experience with Embedded platforms such as ARM Cortex-M and ARC processors.

  • Experience debugging code on embedded systems.

  • Familiarity with Linux OS, command line, and shell scripts.

  • Excellent problem solving, communication, and team work skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work and deliver in a high-pressure environment.

 

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with different sensors such as Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Proximity, Infrared Camera, and ToF (Time of Flight).

  • Experience with sensor fusion (ie. multi-sensor processing).

  • Prior work experience at a software start-up.
