The ideal candidate will be collaborative, technically savvy, organized and self-driven. This role and compensation will be tailored to meet your qualifications and experience. This position requires on-call and shift work. Weekly work schedule is flexible.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Monitor and maintain our cloud infrastructure to ensure high availability and security
  • Troubleshoot issues in the cloud impacting services or IoT endpoints
  • Provide Tier 3 support, collaborate with our sales/support team and offshore operations team
  • Engage 3rd party service providers to resolve issues (cellular and SIM card providers, cloud services)
  • Continuously improve monitoring, alerting and security posture of our cloud using automation
  • Support IoT, engineering and corporate IT systems
  • Deploy cloud service releases and platform upgrades
  • Perform and automate tests to verify and improve monitoring, auto-recovery mechanisms and security posture
  • Ensure maintenance activity tracking and notifications

Experience You'll Bring to the Team:

  • Linux server system administration and security, some Windows familiarity
  • Guru-status skill in Python or similar scripting language
  • Ansible or similar automation framework
  • Familiarity with cloud computing and "cloud native" concepts
  • AWS, Azure, GCP or other cloud provider
  • System troubleshooting and performance analysis
  • Familiarity with networking and mobile connectivity
  • SQL and database administration
  • Monitoring and ensuring high availability of systems

Technologies You'll Interact With:

  • Many open source and internally-developed technologies
  • Python, Bash, Golang, node.js, Java, HTML/JS/CSS/WebSockets, NGINX
  • Ansible, Zabbix, Prometheus, Fluentd, Graylog, Grafana
  • MySQL, Postgres, ElasticSearch, NoSQL databases, MongoDB, Redis, RabbitMQ
  • AWS, Azure and a variety of cloud-based services

Interest or Experience that would be an Asset:

  • Measuring and troubleshooting performance and functional issues across interconnected cloud systems
  • Deployment of web app stack, including reverse proxy, app and database
  • Experience with provisioning tools like Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Docker, or Kubernetes
  • DevOps CI/CD systems such as Jenkins, GitLab
  • Zero downtime deployments, high availability, geo-redundancy
  • Linux server security hardening and cloud security monitoring
  • Security or privacy policies, procedures and certifications
  • Backup, disaster recovery plans and procedures
  • Web app/dashboard creation with Python Tornado for creating ad-hoc internal tools

About Shift and On-Call Work

This is a weekend/off-hours full time position here at our headquarters in Waterloo, ON, Canada, where we engineer and support our full solution. Work schedule can include a combination of in-office, remote and on-call hours. We are flexible to discuss specific work times and so this is a unique opportunity if you are open to, or are looking to define a non-standard work week schedule that fits your own unique situation.
