3E Nano has developed and is commercializing a low cost, thermally and optically smart, nano-thin, Solar/Energy Control Coating (SECC) for a $5.3B smart window market growing at 16% CAGR. 3E Nano’s fully transparent coating controls the energy flow through residential/commercial and automotive/aerospace windows promoting energy savings of up to 50%, at half the cost of competitive energy control coatings. In addition, 3E Nano’s technology has the ability to uniformly electrically heat a window or automotive windshield in seconds, providing very rapid defogging and deicing while still offering solar energy control.
Effective control of optical and thermal energy flow through windows is critical to significantly reducing the high energy load associated with heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) needs of residential, commercial and agricultural buildings, as well as automotive, aerospace, bus/train, and fleet vehicles. Considering that HVAC accounts for up to 50% of buildings and transportation vehicles energy consumption, cost-effective high-performance innovative technologies and solutions are required to meet todays and future demands. Current window film suppliers promote these energy reductions however their films have very limited performance capabilities and are expensive due to their high processing costs and use of exotic materials limiting their market wide acceptance.
3E Nano’s approach is the application of a patent pending innovative technology that integrates durable and optically-tunable nano-thin Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) films and nano-thin optically transparent silver films to attain the highest performance Solar/Energy Control Coating (SECC). The resulting 3E Nano Coatings are passive, active, and smart, based on a low-cost material platform and readily available sputtering production process.
The custom tunability of the 3E Nano optical coating makes it highly versatile for a variety of applications where current film manufactures have difficulty competing. In addition the combination of low-cost materials and the low-cost standard manufacturing process promotes 3E Nano’s coating as one of the lowest cost coatings/films with the highest performance.
The go-to-market strategy is to collaborate with enabling pull partners in residential and commercial buildings and agricultural greenhouses, automotive/aerospace, bus/train, and fleet vehicles, as well as solar panel/module manufacturers. This technology benefits and leverages some well-established multi-billion dollar markets. Currently, smart window market is $2.3B growing to $5.3B by the year 2020.
